Why we named it Supera
Spanish · verb, from superar
- to overcome; to rise above — a challenge, an obstacle
- to surpass; to exceed; to go beyond — a goal, a limit, expectations
- superarse — to better oneself; to improve; to grow — as a person or a team
In use: "Cada día, supera lo de ayer." → "Every day, get better than yesterday."
noun — how we mean it
- an extraordinary platform that helps people, teams, and businesses get better — reviews, feedback, and growth, in English and Spanish.
Why it lands in both languages: an English speaker hears super; a Spanish speaker reads supera — "rise above, get better." (En español: una plataforma extraordinaria que ayuda a las personas y a los equipos a superarse.)
People ask where the name came from. The short answer: it means exactly what the product is for. The longer answer is a story about a founder, a lot of late nights, and a name that was almost something else entirely.
A name that had to work in two languages
The founder spent countless hours on this — and nearly changed the name more than once. The bar was unusually high: it had to be one word that both an English speaker and a Spanish speaker would understand and feel, without translation, and it had to actually mean something — not a made-up tech word, not a name that meant one thing in English and something awkward in Spanish. That rules out almost everything. Most names that sound great in one language fall flat, or worse, in the other.
The answer came from Spanish. Supera — from the verb superar — means to overcome, to surpass, to rise above; and superarse, to better yourself. Say it to an English speaker and they hear super, something a notch above. Show it to a Spanish speaker and they read it plainly: get better. One word, understood on both sides, meaning the same thing — improvement.
The name is the mission
We think about a business in three parts. The familiar version is people, process, and product — but for a company built on its people, we swap the last one for the reason behind the work: purpose, people, and process. Supera lives right in the middle of that. It helps your people grow through a process that's fair, consistent, and actually finished — honest reviews, real feedback, clear goals — all pointed at the purpose the name carries: helping them, and the business, get better. Not surveillance, not paperwork — getting better.
Almost a different name
It would have been easy to give up and pick something generic and safe. Plenty of good products carry names that mean nothing. But a name that says what you're for is worth holding out for — because every time someone reads it, in either language, it tells them what this is about. We're glad the founder didn't settle. Supera is a promise in one word: your team, your business, better than yesterday.
